The 8h of Indianapolis ended with a class podium and an eight position overall for Matteo Cairoli. The driver from Como, at the shared wheel of the Porsche GT3 R 992 #53 of MDK Motorsport with Seth Lucas and Trenton Estep, finished the iconic race on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway – valid for the Intercontinental GT Challenge championship – in the Top-10.
After the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, the Italian was back in action in the intercontinental series, organized by SRO, to replicate what he was able to do on Belgian soil, where he managed to snatch the overall pole position and finish on his class podium. It was a tricky weekend, the one the three drivers at the wheel of the Porsche 992 had to face in America, also due to the sixteenth place on the starting grid, with Cairoli finishing his session sixth despite the breaking issues he was having. The weekend saw an incredible comeback from the team, which allowed them to bring home a FGTWCA Pro class podium.
A great strategy from the team and an excellent and consistent race pace are what let them finish with this incredible result. They were also able to collect the fastest lap of their class, with a time of 1:23.740. With the Indianapolis race in the bag, the next Intercontinental GT Challenge round will be in Yas Marina from December 8th to 10th, while Matteo Cairoli’s next challenge will be in Portimao for the last double round of the European Le Mans Series season during the weekend of October 22.
Matteo Cairoli
“I’m pretty satisfied with this result. The team got the strategy right, Seth and Trenton were two amazing teammates with consistent performances and they both managed to stay away from trouble, which was key during the race. We had a good pace and we were able to catch the others’ rhythm. From sixteenth to eighth was a great glow up, I’d say! The class podium was the right reward for the work we put in.”
