On the Paul Ricard circuit, the 2024 Fanatec GT World Challenge – Endurance Cup has kicked off, the flagship championship for GT3 cars in which Matteo Cairoli participates alongside Iron Lynx in the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo 2 #63. The driver from Como joins Mirko Bortolotti and Andrea Caldarelli for the endurance races of the season.
The event began with three qualifying sessions, one for each driver of the crew. Matteo Cairoli took to the track during the second session, placing second in the qualifying with a 1:52.831, just 79 thousandths off the best time. The starting grid is determined by the team’s three drivers’ combined times and this placed the Iron Lynx’s Lamborghini at the top of the standings for the race start.
The start was entrusted to Mirko Bortolotti, who delivered a solid first hour of racing despite numerous interruptions from safety cars and full course yellows. Next up was Andrea Caldarelli, who continued the excellent work of his teammate, although losing the lead to the Rowe Racing BMW M4 #998. Matteo Cairoli took over the car with 58 minutes remaining, in second place. The Como driver’s stint was fast and consistent, allowing him to cross the finish line in the same position and secure his first career podium with the Italian car.
Iron Lynx earned 18 points, crucial for both the standings and the morale of the team and drivers, ahead of the next appointment with the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe – Endurance Cup: the 24 Hours of Spa on 29th and 30th of June 2024.
