The 2025 season of the World Endurance Championship has kicked off at the Losail International Circuit, home of the 1812km of Qatar. Matteo Cairoli took part in the event at the wheel of the Mercedes-AMG GT3 #60 of the Iron Lynx team together with Matteo Cressoni and Claudio Schiavoni, in the LM GT3 category. The Italian team brought the German car to its debut in the LM GT3 class. For the Como native, this is also a first time with Mercedes, although he remains faithful to the Italian team with which he has raced in the last two seasons.
Schiavoni qualified for the team as required by the regulation for bronze drivers, finishing in 18th place with a time of 1:59.194, just behind the other Mercedes of the Iron Lynx team. It was an uphill race from the start, with Cairoli entering the car early to try to recover the gap accumulated in the first laps. The pace of the driver from Como was excellent, but not enough to gain positions in the standings.
The Iron Lynx team was then forced to stop the car due to technical problems with the car, canceling any hope of obtaining a good result. In the following hours the Mercedes #60 returned to the track to obtain useful data in view of the rest of the season, to give the team and drivers the chance to become familiar with the new car, finishing in 14th place in the GT class.
The next appointment for the FIA WEC will be the 6h of Imola on the Easter weekend on 20 April 2025, in which Matteo Cairoli will race at home, while the Como native will shortly announce the next plans for the season.
