Top-10 at Nürburgring for Matteo Cairoli in the GT World Challenge Europe

The third round of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS – Endurance Cup took place once again in Germany, on the spectacular Nürburgring circuit. Matteo Cairoli participated in the event driving the Iron Lynx’s #63 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO 2, alongside his teammates Andrea Caldarelli and Mirko Bortolotti.

The team assigned the driver from Como the third of the three qualifying sessions scheduled to determine the starting grid for the race, in which he set a time of 1:54.139, the fastest among the crew members. The combined times of the three sessions allowed the team to start from the tenth position on the starting grid, in the fifth row.

The start was entrusted to Bortolotti, who managed to climb to eighth place in the first few minutes of the race. The Lamborghini then maintained the position throughout the central part of the race, always remaining in contention for the points zone. Matteo Cairoli got into the car during the last stint, with the task of finalizing the results for the entire team. The battle for seventh place was very close, in which the driver from Como tried to get the better of the #9 Mercedes of Götz. Unfortunately, the #51 Ferrari of Pier Guidi took advantage of the battle, overtaking the Iron Lynx team and relegating Cairoli to ninth position.

At the finish line, Matteo Cairoli’s Lamborghini managed, therefore, to conquer two points in the standings, thanks to an excellent performance by all three drivers of the crew. In the standings reserved for endurance events, the team now sits in sixth position with 21 points. The next round of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS – Endurance Cup will be the home race for Cairoli: it will be held at Monza on September 22nd.
